Watching breakfast tv today yet again the subject was the lack of midwives working in the UK when there are many women qualifying in midwifery but have no jobs to go to. Lack of NHS funds- same old story. Having heard from friends their experiences of giving birth and the care needed it seems the lack of midwives and available care is a scary prospect if the situation worsens into the future. I know it may sound selfish but i'd certainly want the care if I'm ever in that situation.. wouldn't fancy fending for myself!!...from what I've heard.
The MP who was questioned on this (alas I don't her name) could only say the success rate is at an all time high for no problem pregnancies and births. Alas she couldn't give a positive solution to the lack of mid wife positions in this country. Also she remarked how more and more women are choosing to have children later on and how more are choosing to have C- sections...so that's ok then????
I just think its a sad state to be in in this country where qualified people are desperate to have temporary, part time work and job shares just to get the practice in and to have a job in the area they've trained in...tis also a shame as midwifery may have appealed to me but job prospects look bleak so I might as well not even contemplate it.
Even my dad is about to face the job search scenario all over again.....he's not a midwife in case you wondered!
Roll on Monday when Cavy and I head off to God's Own Country- so I'm told- to the green wilds of Dunfanaghy in North West Ireland.
Farewell and top of the mornin' to ya

Doctors don't like the competition I fear.
This is New Labours NHS plc where money matters and not people
What a shame. I would never 'opt' for a c-section. I think it's an awful practice.
Have fun in Eire.
