Web wonder Calvin wins over Kylie
Kylie Minogue is working with the DJ for her new album. An unknown Scottish songwriter has been plucked from obscurity to help write a new album for Kylie Minogue. Calvin Harris from Dumfries was brought to the singer's attention after posting his music on the "My Space" website.
The 23-year-old DJ and former shelf stacker turned to the website where he has built up a cult following.
A spokesman for Kylie said: "She has been working on some tracks with Calvin. Kylie heard stuff he'd done and liked it. Things are going well."
It is understood Mr Harris had been sending demos to record companies for years in the hope of getting noticed.
He had virtually given up on getting a big break when he turned to the web.
His tunes caught the attention of a top producer, who handed his details on to the Australian star.
Mr Harris has signed to Sony BMG and his debut single, Acceptable In The 80s, is being released in March. He is then due to support dance act Faithless on their UK tour.
It seems the net is a great way of being plucked out of the cyber ether and promoted into all forms of popular mass media.
