Friday night I got to sit on the other side of the fence and watch people audition for Closer.
Was an intersting experience, quite something though to see people nervous , I was surprised how people can come across as confident beings in readings but show nerves in auditions which reflects in their posture and manner ie:- quieter voice and more hunched over, maybe they feel a need to shield themselves more.

Yes... I can say that at an audition, most people spend most of the time "in their heads" and are not "putting it out there" they way it happens during performance. I know exactly what you mean... and I am sure I've done it unwittingly myself! :)
The weirdest thing I found the first time I sat on the other side of the fence was that I was more nervous in the position of authority and responsibility than I ever had been at an acting audition.
And then you have to pretend to be calm and relaxed and to know what you're doing, so you end up doing more acting than the person who's turned up for the audition.
