The Wisdom of Johnny Cash

The Cavy and I were slightly peeved that Walk the Line isn't coming to our local cinema, roll on the opening of the new multi-plex, a trivial gripe to make, but we do like our fillums.

Anyway I thought i'd drop you a dose of lyrics from the late great JC. I've listened to his music since I was a tot through my dad's love for the Man in Black's music. My dad was fortunate to see the guy play back in 1963 when he was 15 and Johnny was 29 (that's my age! yikes on a bike). My dad went on a work's trip from Malmesbury, a small hilltop town in Wiltshire to the city of Bristol at the Colston Hall. I think that must be the best work trip i've ever heard of, beats my trip to an Industrial Estate in S. Wales!

I digress

In 1963 Johnny was yet to make it big in the UK so my dad saw him at a good time. He was in customary black and that was the June Carter effect as he was apparently lacking in dress sense before they met! tending to wear clothes which clashed.. not exactly the image for a solitary man.

So here's Jackson, one of my favourites which he used to duet with June and is one i'd love to sing dancin' on a Pony Keg.

Jackson

We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout,
We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson, ever since the fire went out.
I'm goin' to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around,
Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson,
Look out Jackson town.

Well, go on down to Jackson; go ahead and wreck your health.
Go play your hand you big-talkin' man, make a big fool of yourself,
Yeah, go to Jackson; go comb your hair!
Honey, I'm gonna snowball Jackson.
See if I care.

When I breeze into that city, people gonna stoop and bow. (Hah!)
All them women gonna make me, teach 'em what they don't know how,
I'm goin' to Jackson, you turn-a loose-a my coat.
'Cos I'm goin' to Jackson.
"Goodbye," that's all she wrote.

But they'll laugh at you in Jackson, and I'll be dancin' on a Pony Keg.
They'll lead you 'round town like a scalded hound,
With your tail tucked between your legs,
Yeah, go to Jackson, you big-talkin' man.
And I'll be waitin' in Jackson, behind my Jaypan Fan,

Well now, we got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper Sprout,
We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson, ever since the fire went.
I'm goin' to Jackson, and that's a fact.
Yeah, we're goin' to Jackson, ain't never comin' back.

Well, we got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout'
And we've been talkin' 'bout Jackson, ever since the fire went...

Well it makes me want to see the film anyway. I don't really go for that kind of music but now that Reese is nominated, I figure it must be good!
